A twinning surface happens when two crystal lattices share parts of their lattices with each other. The crystals may each have different color makeups, which is what causes the different colors along one surface. Most labradorite stones do show labradorescence; however, there are some that don't. Those stones may have a nice color when polished, or they may display a sheen when the stone is rotated around, which can still make them attractive and desirable in jewelry.

The stone itself is found in white, gray, or clear colors, and when it is polished, the color of the stone comes out well and it's possible to see some of the twinning surfaces in the stone, generally as lines. Polishing also brings out the unique iridescence that is labradorescence. Labradorite can be found in any kind of jewelry, but you might only want to use it as a special use piece or one that you don't wear daily. It is soft enough that it could pick up some scratches, which could damage the overall appearance of the piece of jewelry.
